A sincere and religious young man asks Jesus a serious question – what good thing must I do to have eternal life? Jesus takes time to answer him in a manner that allows this man to see, possibly for the first time, his true state before God. And Jesus shows him what he needs to do to rectify this. The young man is sorrowful at the realisation that he has fallen short of God’s standards and that what he needs to do to follow Christ will cost him dearly. How do we react when God shows us what we are truly like? Do we turn our backs on the Saviour that He has provided for us?
