After preparing the ground with a reminder of his authority, Paul calls out a specific sin in the church in Corinth, a situation the believers there had failed to deal with. The issue was their toleration – even boasting about – a clear case of sexual immorality. Paul pulls no punches when he takes the action the church had failed to take and commands them to remove the person responsible from the spiritual protection of God’s people, the church.
