Continuing to address issues concerning sexual morality, Paul answers some specific questions the Corinthians had asked him in a letter that is not recorded in scripture. Paul applies, and amplifies, Christ’s teaching on marriage as the only place, for the believing man or woman, where sexual desires are to be consummated. Both partners in a marriage are to recognise their wife’s or husband’s rights to their time, attention and body. However if possible, says Paul, it is better for the follower of Christ to be free from the demands of marriage by remaining single and dedicating their energies to His service.
