Paul emphasises that authority, power and success, for the Christian, should not assessed according to human criteria but according to God’s. The apparent weakness of the Apostles’ “earthen vessels” demonstrates that the progress of the Gospel in the early church is not due to their human abilities but to the work of the Holy Spirit. And if the we look at the bigger picture we can see our present struggles and sufferings as small in scale relative to what we will have in eternity.
