Beginning with the final three verses of chapter 4 the writer of Hebrews takes the opportunity to draw our attention to Jesus, the complete and perfect high priest. Jesus’ priesthood is not after the order established with Aaron but in the manner of Melchizedek the priest AND king who blessed Abraham before the law was instituted. Jesus’ unique sacrifice makes Him the author of salvation to all who obey Him. Chapter 5 ends with a challenge to believers grow in their knowledge and understanding of God’s word so that we might be teachers and not babies in need of the care of others.
