Luke 16.

There are two stories about riches told by Jesus and recorded in the 16th chapter of his Gospel, by Luke. The first concerns the dishonest accountant who despite being caught out in his dishonesty, prepares wisely for his future. The second tells the story of the rich man and Lazarus, the beggar at his gate, who is unprepared for what lies in his future. Sandwiched between these comes Jesus’ challenge to His hearers, particularly the Pharisees, who lived for money all the while neglecting to keep God’s law. Are we preparing now for what lies ahead for us? No one avoids death but where we spend eternity is decided while we have life. What stops us from seeking to obey God now while there is still time to do so?
