Mark 12 : 28 – 34.
- : What is the greatest commandment?
- : 28 April 2019
A scribe, who has been listening to Jesus answering those trying to catch Him out, comes forward to ask Jesus to tell him what is the most important commandment. Jesus confirms that He taught God’s law by quoting from Deuteronomy that loving God with every part of our being is the first rule. However Jesus didn’t stop there but added, from Leviticus 19:18, that just as important was to love our neighbours as we love ourselves. The scribe is impressed with this answer and Jesus encourages him in that by seeing that faith in God is more important than burnt offerings, the scribe is not far from being a part of the kingdom of God.
