Mark 2 : 13 – 17.

Levi, the disciple we know as Matthew, responds to Jesus when called to “follow me”, by immediately abandoning his lucrative but despised tax collecting business and following Christ. When Jesus joins Levi and his friends for a meal the Pharisees question the disciples as to Jesus’ association with sinners. Hearing them, Jesus says that it is not those who are righteous who need a saviour but those who are sinners.
