Oops!

In his prison cell, John the Baptist appears to be be doubting what he had earlier proclaimed regarding Jesus and so sends two of his disciples to ask Him “Are you the coming one, or do we look for another?” Jesus points these men to the miraculous works that He has done and which are not in doubt, and challenges them by saying that those who stand with Christ – who are not offended by Him – will be blessed. After John’s disciples leave, Jesus talks to His listeners about him, extolling John’s status among the messengers of God but saying that if they follow Jesus their standing in the kingdom of God will be greater even than John’s.
