Oops!

Continuing to illustrate the nature of Israel’s deplorable attitude towards God, Jesus tells a parable about a king inviting guests to his son’s wedding celebrations. The responses of those who are invited range from the dismissive to the murderous. Eventually the king’s patience ran out and he punishes those who have behaved criminally.

Instead of persisting with his original guests, the king sends his servants to invite anyone they find in the streets to the wedding, with the result that soon the event is full of celebration. But there is one there who was not invited and is then bound and thrown out. The final warning from Jesus is that although many are invited to enter God’s kingdom, only a few are chosen.
