Oops!

When the disciples draw Jesus’ attention to the wonders of the temple building, restored and expanded by Herod the Great, Jesus shocks them by saying that not one stone of the magnificent building would remain upon another. Gathering on the Mount of Olives opposite the eastern gate to the city the disciples ask Jesus to explain when this will happen to the Temple, and what will be the sign that Jesus’ return is imminent and the end of the age is coming. Although the interpretation of Jesus’ answers to these questions are the subject of considerable debate, we can be sure of one thing, Jesus will return.
