Oops!

Jesus brings His sermon to a close with a warning to everyone who publicly proclaims that they are His followers – make sure to obey Him and don’t practice ‘lawlessness’. Once again Jesus reminds His hearers of the simple choice they have to make after hearing His words – put them into practice, be wise and stand when the judgement comes or don’t act on Jesus’ words, be foolish and fall when the judgement comes. He taught with authority and the audience on the mount recognised that this was very different from the teachings of the religious leaders of their time.
