This Psalm of David is probably the most well known chapter in the Bible. It is looked to as a source of comfort at moments of difficulty, and loss, by Christians and unbelievers alike. However when we consider the occupation of the Psalmist we see David’s particular insight into the role that God plays as a shepherd in the lives of His people. And we see how our position as ‘sheep’ explains our weakness and vulnerability and our need for a ‘Good Shepherd’ to lead and provide for us.
