Oops!

Jesus ends his ‘Sermon on the Mount’ with a series of pictures that draw a sharp line between what it means to follow him and what it means to go our own way. There are only two kinds of gate, two types of path, leading to just two destinations. There are only two types of listener to his message, the one who acts on what they hear and the one who doesn’t. As a result we can choose to build our hope for heaven on the rock of faith in Christ and stand firm when the final storm comes or build on sand and have everything swept away when we face judgement. This is the sharp line that Jesus draws between real and false faith.
