Peter’s instinctive reaction to Jesus telling his disciples of his imminent trial, suffering and death resulted in a rebuke from the Lord as Jesus reminded Peter of his divine purpose. Jesus then pointed out that suffering and self-denial would be the characteristics of all those who would truly follow him. What do we seek to achieve in this life? What are our ambitions? Only those things we do for Christ will be to our eternal benefit.
