Oops!

Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, succeeding the old one. The previous covenant functioned only as a picture, or shadow, of the perfect work of Christ in providing a truly effective sacrifice for sin. The offering of His life was necessary only once to be sufficient to put away sin for all who trust in Him. We wait now for the second appearing of Christ not to bear sin again, but to bring about salvation.
